Screensavers, Smileys and Toolbars, Oh My!

When you touch a hot stove and pull your hand away, do you need to be told not to touch it again? My guess is no. Then why is it so hard for people to resist installing smileys, toolbars and screensavers, even after they've been told how bad they are? Read the rest of this entry »

Having Trouble Viewing YouTube Videos? Try This Fix

A few of my customers, lately, are complaining that they can't watch videos at YouTube.com. They see a message stating that the latest version of the Flash player isn't installed or that they may be experiencing issues with the current version or configuration of the Java software.

I've seen references to this problem, elsewhere, but no real solutions.

Google Apps: Freedom and Flexibility For Business Email

I've finally organized all (almost all) of my email addresses with Google Apps. It's like a huge weight has been lifted from my shoulders! I can now access all of my email, from every account (and I have many), without having to "forward" it to different addresses, just to make sure I'm receiving all messages, from all addresses. How to Remove Spyware and Viruses

Clearly, you need to have the ability to cleanup routine spyware and virus infections from your computer. Without this ability, you'll be paying someone, like me, lots of money to do it for you or you'll continue to use your infected computer until it's no longer usable. Read the rest of this entry »

Five Quick Tips For The Average Computer User

Some people just don't have the time or patience to sit and read a long article on how to perform a specific operation on their computer. FinallyFast.com TV Ads: PC SpeedScan Pro Contains Adware.RogueSuspect

Like many of you, I heard (I was in the other room) the TV ad for FinallyFast.com. Being the geek that I am, I had to see what it was all about. They claim that they’ll speed-up your computer by fixing errors, blah, blah, blah… It was the same old stuff.

So I downloaded the software, PC SpeedScan Pro, by a company called Ascentive, and installed it on my machine. I scanned through the EULA, before installing it, of course. I saw no mention of any third-party advertising software or ad support.

Reduce The Risk Of Visiting Dangerous Websites

A few months ago, maybe even longer than that, I came across the Web Of Trust. I believe it was while I was searching for new Firefox add-ons. Just out of curiosity, I installed it. At the time, I didn't realize what a valuable tool it would turn out to be. Read the rest of this entry »

Computer Technology not lost on San Angelo Seniors

It’s common knowledge that computer technology would be lost on San Angelo’s senior citizens, right? Not according to members of multiple senior citizen computer clubs. In this small west Texas city of about 100,000 people, it seems these folks have a hunger for computer knowledge that most younger people might not expect.

Even if it’s only to keep in touch with their not-so-local children and grandchildren or to discover their roots with genealogy programs, local seniors feel a need to learn about computers. Some go even deeper into knowing multiple operating systems and proper computer maintenance and security!
