Same problem here, my computer does not recognise me as administrator although I am the owner and only user. I have been working with Daniweb free tech forum for 5 days now.On the last lap I think there is a registry key missing in AVG I looked it up somewhere and the default key had HZ beside it and no value added. My final thing I have to do is change admin but if I do it in IE all my firefox stuff vanishes and I have spent hours getting all back. Waiting now on reply from the tech helping me about that before I try that step.Only time I use IE is when my ISP tech help is helping me.

Use AVG's own removal tools

If you have a 32bit version of windows, use:

http://download.avg.com/filedir/util/support/avg_remover_stf_x86_2011_1165.exe

If you have a 64bit version of windows, use:

http://download.avg.com/filedir/util/support/avg_remover_stf_x64_2011_1165.exe

Run the tool, restart the computer when asked. Works 99% of the time I would say.

Thanks for this, saved me wasting time hunting it down. I had to log on in Safe Mode as Administrator to access the permissions - couldn't obtain ownership even as a member of administrators.
After that it all worked a dream - Thanks.

Yes I do. If you try to change the permissions from within a standard user account in Windows you will definitely get the following kind of errors:

"Unable to save permission changes on Windows
Access is denied."

"Unable to set new owner on Windows.
Access is denied."

You first need to logon to Windows as administrator or at least as a user who has an administrator account. Then you'll be able to do things like change permissions of registry keys and or take ownership of them etc.
