Just a few days after my post about ways to protect your computer from lightning, we take a direct hit and my motherboard gets fried!

It was a fairly quick-moving storm that started around 5:00am. I heard some thunder and saw a few lightning flashes, but it didn’t seem that bad. Then, in unison, we saw a flash, heard a loud pop and then a HUGE clap of thunder.

Everything on the northern wall of our house got knocked out. I lost my motherboard, Suddenlink had to reset both of my modems and we need to buy a new phone system. It even popped one of the GFI circuits!

So, it looks like I’ll be working from my laptop, until the new motherboard arrives. I guess it could have been much worse, but it’s definitely not a good way to start the day.
