Three Must-Have Programs for Windows
From setting up new computers to cleaning up and organizing older computers, there are five three must-have Windows-based programs that I pass along to my customers.
Photo Editing and Organizing
The simplest free photo-editing and organizing program, for me, is Google’s Picasa 3. It’s a snap to install and it doesn’t slow down your computer, like Kodak’s Easy Share software. You can also share photos and albums with a free Google account. This account will provide access to Picasa Web Albums and other Google services.
Free Virus and Spyware Protection
Until computer security companies offer products that perform with near 100% capability, I’ll choose to use the free versions. I’ve used plenty of security programs, for virus and spyware protection, and for now I’ve settled on AVG Free version 9. I may switch to something else, in the future, because that’s just what I do. However, I’ve been using AVG for over two years now.
Stable and Secure Internet Browsing
For years I was reluctant to make the switch from Windows’ standard Internet Explorer to Mozilla’s Firefox. I was happy with Internet Explorer and wasn’t experiencing the security problems that everyone else was having. Then I began having scripting errors, with Internet Explorer, and some websites wouldn’t display properly. I finally made the switch to Firefox and I’m so happy I did. With Firefox, you can choose from a multitude of themes and add new functionality with add-ons and plugins.
Remember, these are my favorites and must-haves. You’re very likely to have a list of your own, that differs greatly from mine.
