Most technicians are probably against having this information posted publicly. However, I’m an information guy and I enjoy passing along a computer secret, every now and then. Of course, this information is only secret to some and common knowledge to others.

If a Windows system file is infected and removed, Windows may no longer work properly. Don’t attempt any of this if you don’t feel confident in doing so. This is just a quick update to a post I had originally published, just a few weeks back. This post is for people who need to know how to remove Ascentive PC SpeedScan Pro and all the garbage that comes with it.

I thought I had gotten rid of all traces of Ascentive PC SpeedScan Pro, shortly after I tested and uninstalled it. As it turns out, I was mistaken.

Buying a new computer can be a bittersweet process…
The good news is that you’re getting a new computer! I, myself, love having the latest technology at my fingertips. I get excited whenever the possibility exists that I’m getting a new piece of “tech” gear. Ok…that may just be me. Anyway, you know that your new computer is going to have a sleek new design and, more importantly, increased speed, capability and capacity to boost your computing enjoyment and productivity.

The bad news is that you’ve spent years storing important data and programs on your old computer. You most likely have a ton of applications (some good and some bad), pictures, music, documents, emails and more. There are many people experiencing an installation error, while trying to install AVG 8.0. The following error message is displayed after the AVG installation fails:

Error: Action failed for registry key HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Windows: creating registry key….

Error 0×80070005

I’ve seen this, already, on a few machines and I’ve been trying to find a specific solution, with no luck. Obviously, most “solutions” are geared towards changing the registry permissions. This morning, I found what I was looking for.
