UPDATE: Google Sets a Trap and Catches a Bing!

Google vs Bing

I, and not by myself, have been saying for years, that Google is really the only search engine to which you need to submit your new website. Now, it’s been proven.

“The company [Google] grew wary of potential copycats in October 2010 when engineers noticed that bizarre misspellings were returning the same set of results on both Google and Bing searches.

Unsure, but suspicious, Google set up a trap. From December 17 to December 31, engineers inserted a “honeypot” result as the top result for specific search queries — including, hiybbprqag, mbzrxpgiys, and indoswiftjobinproduction — and waited to see if the same results would appear on Bing. Lo and behold, the identical results popped up.”

As this news gets out, I can only speculate that MSFT stock will feel a hit, from wary investors and from an expected loss of search revenue.

Tsk, tsk, Mr. Gates.

AngeloBanners.com

I just registered the domain name AngeloBanners.com. I did this only as a potential for online business advertising, here in San Angelo. I know there are upcoming seminars to show businesses what they need to do, in order to take full advantage of the internet, including advertising and social media. So many local businesses fail to garner all they can, as far as business exposure, from using these new tools.

We’ll see what happens. I may develop the domain name or I may sell it. Interested?

Just a real quick post, this morning. It looks like Twitter and Facebook are both experiencing some site problems. I can't tell whether or not Facebook's problems are due to a cyber attack, but FoxNews.com is reporting that Twitter was indeed hacked. Read the rest of this entry »

Did Microsoft and YAHOO! Strike a Deal?

Keep your ears open for an announcement that Microsoft and YAHOO! have come to an agreement over their joint search and advertising businesses. While both parties claim nothing has been signed, they also agree that negotiations are complete and paperwork is just a formality, at this point. The final deal is supposedly far less-sweeping than the original plans. Read the rest of this entry »

FinallyFast.com TV Ads: PC SpeedScan Pro Contains Adware.RogueSuspect

Like many of you, I heard (I was in the other room) the TV ad for FinallyFast.com. Being the geek that I am, I had to see what it was all about. They claim that they’ll speed-up your computer by fixing errors, blah, blah, blah… It was the same old stuff.

So I downloaded the software, PC SpeedScan Pro, by a company called Ascentive, and installed it on my machine. I scanned through the EULA, before installing it, of course. I saw no mention of any third-party advertising software or ad support.
